Review of Rambo III (1988) by Keenan S — 20 Nov 2013
Rambo III is currently the first and only Rambo film I've seen (I know, I'm behind. I'm still trying to catch up to all these franchises I've missed), and I must say that I had a blast with this third film.
It's a fun, wildly over the top, anti-Soviet Union flick that tries to incorporate both philosophical and political issues into its plot regarding Afghanistan. In some ways, this film felt like it tried to be the Rambo version of Lawrence Of Arabia (Though not nearly as good, mind you), which was rather strange.
I'll give it credit for being slightly more intelligent than most other action flicks of its time, but the film does suffer from having some ponderous philosophical moments. Despite some minor issues regarding the story, Rambo III is a blast of action cinema that is filled to the brim with ridiculous action, decent acting, and a corny plot with some political messages.
Now I'm definitely intrigued to see the other entries of this franchise.
