Review of Rambo III (1988) by Devin R — 11 Jul 2009
RAMBO III is pretty much just more of the same as FIRST BLOOD: PART II... and that's a pretty good thing, actually. Stallone still carries the film as the rugged, badass John Rambo, still attempting to live his life in peace and leave the battlefield behind.
This time he volunteers to sneak into Afghanistan; which is under siege by the Russians. Rambo goes onto the battlefield once again to help rescue his only friend and mentor Col. Trautman (once again played by Richard Crenna), who has been captured, tortured and faces certain death.
Rambo gears up and, as usual, leaves a trail of massive carnage. The political field in which the film is set is quite interesting given the modern political landscape; after the US helped Afghanistan defeat the Russians, America left the Afghan people to their own devices, which would later give rise to Al-Qaeda.
If you liked the first two RAMBO movies there's really no reason to think you wouldn't enjoy this one either, just as long as you're simply looking for a way to satisfy your 'action fix', RAMBO III will certainly deliver the mayhem you're craving.
