Review of Rambo III (1988) by Kevin R — 01 May 2010
We already had our Vietnam. Now you're going to have yours.
Trautman arrives on Rambo's doorsteps and asks him to partake in a mission to bring down an evil mercenary in Afghanistan. Rambo refuses and Trautman is forced to partake in the mission himself. When the mission fails, Rambo must head to Afghanistan to save Trautman.
"The lord must love crazy people.".
"Why?".
"Because he makes so many of them.".
Peter MacDonald, director of Mo' Money, The Neverending Story III, Legionnaire, and The Lost Empire, delivers Rambo III. The storyline for this picture is predictable and as you would expect for the genre. The characters are portrayed well and the action scenes were dramatic. The acting was better than average and the cast included Sylvester Stallone, Richard Crenna, Kurtwood Smith, and Sasson Gabai.
"Why must you do this?".
"Because he'd do it for me.".
I always loved the Rambo movies as a kid. However, I always found this picture to be the most unrealistic in the original trilogy. Every arrow or bullet caused a larger than life explosion (including blowing helicopters out of the air); now, I know that sounds like every Rambo movie, but this film was a bit much. This is easily the worst Rambo movie, but worth watching for action movie junkies.
"It's better to send 5 lions than 500 sheep.".
Grade: C+ (5.5).
