Review of Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) by Kevin N — 21 Apr 2009
An ideology stetched much too thin, this sequel does its damndest to obliterate the effective quietness of the first film. It turns Rambo into the machine audiences know today, the unstoppable force to be reckoned with who feels no pain and does not hesitate to take away human life.
The good news is that this Rambo is fun as hell, and watching a man beat his way into the jungles of Vietnam in search of POWs isn't a bad way to spend an hour-and-a-half. The bad news is that any subtle message on war and its terrors on the human spirit that the first film set up is destroyed as we are beaten over the head with Stallone monologues.
