Review of Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) by Dutch V — 10 Aug 2009
What you choose to call hell he calls home.
The year is 1985 and it has become apparent that there are still some stranded POWs in Vietnam. Colonel Samuel Trautman knows only one man who can infiltrate Vietnam to discover where these POWs are being stored?John J. Rambo. Trautman works his magic to get Rambo released from jail and stationed in Vietnam. Is there really POWs still in Vietnam or does Trautman have a secret agenda?
?To survive war you?ve got to become war.?
George Cosmatos, director of Escape to Athena, Cobra, Tombstone, Leviathan, and Shadow Conspiracy, delivers Rambo: First Blood II. The storyline for this picture is not as fascinating or well delivered as the original Rambo film. The action scenes are better and a little more over the top than the first Rambo movie; however, the story was over the top and a bit frustrating at times. The soundtrack was inconsistent and the concluding song was a bit puzzling.
?Mission accomplished.?
Rambo was one of my favorite series as a kid. It?s funny that watching these films again I had actually remembered this picture as the first Rambo movie (this installment was my favorite and I watched it repeatedly as a kid). Nevertheless, watching this again as an adult the original Rambo was the far superior product. This film definitely contains awesome action scenes with fabulous explosions. Overall, I recommend seeing this film if you are a Rambo fan but this does not bring too much originality to the genre.
?I?m expendable.?
