Review of Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) by Marco R — 28 Aug 2010
A confounding, entertaining mixture of post-Vietnam dick-measuring and comic-book moralizing with some LET'S BLOW SHIT UP theatrics. This is what Stallone would be homaging in the Expendables. He should've left well enough alone; this is a product of Regan-era macho-jingoism, amped to such a degree that you can't help but laugh as a man fires at Rambo from three feet away and then is blown apart by a missile on the end of an arrow.
If Stallone were any more jacked he be He-Man; all it's missing is him vs. Skeletor. I mean that as a compliment, I guess. It's not a very *good* movie, but it's fun. Just do NOT try and measure it up to the first film.
It isn't like how the Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome are only slightly different in tone. These are pretty much two different characters, one more in line with Travis Bickle and the other in line with Snake Plissken.
