Review of Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) by Todd H — 18 Sep 2010
Suspension of disbelief is required here in huge amounts, as Rambo single-handedly beats huge numbers of Vietnamese and Russian forces. It all works because Sylvester Stallone wholly sells himself as Rambo the Superhero.
Compare his mess of a final speech in "First Blood" to the fantastic "speech" at the end of part 2, which consists of him shooting thousands of rounds into all kinds of high tech radios and computers, culminating with a long yell as he aimlessly fires his gun into the ceiling.
Rambo should not talk in these films, as his actions (as stupendous as they are) speak volumes over his words. Pure exploitation and very silly, but rousing, visceral fun.
