Review of Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) by Dave A — 09 Jan 2011
Although more explosive and more action-packed than the first, Part 2 still retains that core story of a man caught in a war and his obligation to fulfill his mission. A new dickhead antagonist replaces Dennehy this time, Charles Napier plays Commander Murdoch, and once again, his agenda is all politics. Rambo must outlandishly save himself and a bunch of POWs from impossible odds.
But fuck it, its all about the spray-paint in this one children. Hope you like the colour red, because you'll be dreaming of the Red Sea when you tuck yourself into bed. Rambo has always excelled at providing breathless action, and Stallone rips up the screen during his golden age as an action star. It's funny how they talk of "expendables" in this one, almost foreshadowing the twilight of his action career in 2010.
Rambo's got balls and so does this movie. The body count is high, the bullets pierce your expectations and give you that testosterone-induced high only a manly man's movie can do. Rambo is king, they don't make movies like this anymore.
