Review of Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) by Fraser S — 31 Dec 2018
RIght from the get go, this is not as good as the original. The original is one of my favourite animated films because of it's love and understanding of video games. The sequel ofts for 10 minutes more of that, and we're off to the internet for more pop culture easter eggs.
I've also heard people say this film is similar to the Emoji Movie and I guess that's true, but I haven't seen the Emoji Movie and never will. Put simply, this film is enjoyable enough for a Disney sequel that changes enough to make it fresh, yet keeps enough of the original heart. The friendship between Ralph and Vanellope is brilliant and funny. Gal Gadot makes a decent character in her own video game where she is off doing Fast and Furious things, but she has character. There's even a sad yet at the same time funny scene where Ralph reads comments. Everyone in their right mind knows never to read YouTube comments unless you want to be depressed. Overall, a solid film, not as good as the amazing original, but still great enough to warrant watching.
