Review of Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018) by Fresh T — 22 Dec 2018
Unlike the first movie, this dropped the ball on everything I loved and enjoyed about Vanellope and Ralph. I've never seen such solid animation be blindsided by poor story telling. The overload of product placement, and cliche internet references, sounded like my parents trying to be cool back in childhood.
Also Vanellope becoming a princess by just singing a song and relating over her being saved by 'strong man' hurt the image of what a true-Disney Princess is, an incredible individual who stands up for themselves (and not by just singing a song).
The animation was fine overall, some cliche movements and loads of arm motions where there didn't need to be; seriously just let the character be still for a second. The virus by the way is STILL out there, and was never dealt with; just Ralph's insecurities.
Emoji movie, you have a friend in the mix. Both equally cringe worthy, and for different reasons.
