As a mentor to a 13-year-old boy who I took to this movie, I found it cringe-worthy and peppered with misandry. I can appreciate a reaction to the fact that too many older movies and storylines objectify girls and women but that doesn't really justify having the only male role model being a not-very-bright, not-very-attractive Neanderthal.
BTW, the girl cartoons are still highly objectified, despite the assertive, independent language. This includes the harem of princesses.
