Review of Raising Victor Vargas (2002) by Ted E — 25 Oct 2007
The 2003 Sundance sensation, Raising Victor Vargas, is the perfect film for romance lovers who are weary of formulaic Hollywood rom-coms. Itâ??s a beautifully told and sensitive story about Victor, a good-looking and confident young teenager coming of age in the projects of Manhattanâ??s Lower East Side.
Life gets complicated when he falls in love with the beautiful but unattainable Judy. First time writer-director Peter Sollett, working with a small budget and an inexperienced (but very impressive) cast, has created a poignant, tender and moving film.
