Review of Raising Victor Vargas (2002) by Joshua C — 10 Mar 2008
Spell bounding story of a young man learning to maneuver though life and love. The cultural context of the lower east side provides real depth to this film. Not only is the character learning to understand himself, but he is learning to understand his social surroundings, including his immigrant devout Catholic, single mother who is a who is struggling to understand the lives of her children, especially her eldest son.
It was refreshing to see urban/ghetto life that was not characterized by gang violence and drugs. The story transcending Urban America.
