Review of Raising Victor Vargas (2002) by Jonathan A — 16 Apr 2008
Nice film about a Dominican-American youth trying to juggle growing up with his siblings, grandmother, and new girlfriend. Minimalist indie-roots lend a feel of great authenticity to this film, the acting and script comes off as very natural; funny when it needs to be and serious with a sense of optimism.
Worth checking out for those who like their coming-of-age stories sans sex, depression and violence.
