Review of Raising Helen (2004) by Vincent M — 03 Mar 2008
Raising Helen is an unashamedly derivative and sentimental dramatic comedy about a sister who must raiser her sibling's children after an unfortunate death resulting in her death. On the positive side, prominent use of one of my favorite songs of all time, Devo's Whip It! and a couple of adorable kids make this film bearable.
Brother and sister duo Spencer Breslin of the Cat in the Hat once again resumes his role as a snotty nosed brat who's just too cute not to like, and Abigail Breslin of Signs is very talented at tugging on our heartstrings with crocodile tears and smiles.
The rest of the cast, some of which consisted of Kate Hudson and Joan Cusack was effective, but John Corbett of My Big Fat Greek, Wedding I could have done without.
