Review of Raising Arizona (1987) by Jesse O — 18 Aug 2010
This movie is so fucking GREAT. One of the few movies where Nicolas Cage actually looks good. Thing is, he's still a shitty actor in this movie, but this movie is so goddamn funny and entertaining that you never really notice how awful he really is.
So the Coen brothers get a huge thumbs up in writing an excellent script, dialogue and creating memorable and entertaining characters and interesting visuals to go along with that. Also this movie has what is, probably, the greatest chase scene I've ever seen in a movie.
It's just an EXCELLENT chase sequence. This movie is just really great overall. With the reputation the Coen bros. have amassed in almost 30 years, I can't see this film being regarded as one of their best.
Hell it might even be pretty low on the list, but it's still a great and funny movie. I especially liked the ending, it was a very sweet and touching scene and it helped close out the movie quite nicely.
With that said, I think that everyone should watch this movie.
