I absolutely love this movie! I think this is one of the most important films to come out of china, both politically and culturally. The composition of each shot is a work of art and the music and acting is flawless.
In terms of the plot, it is a brilliant portrayal of how females (very creatively) compete for power even in a very culturally repressed, male dominated society.
