I love Chinese cinema, as I was brought up in Taiwan, so it has particular resonance for me. This is my favourite Chinese film though. I love Zhang Yimou's collaborations with Gong Li. The storyline is genuinely shocking, yet every shot is like a painting.
It was a stroke of genius never showing the husband's face.
