This is a really good movie. Gong Li was around 25 or 26 when she made this movie, but she plays a 19 year old and it's completely believable! She grows old nicely... That's beside the point xD The cinematography is all done stylishly.
.. with grace. And all the actors do a really good job... it's a tragedy though... Just 19, and she couldn't continue university because her family didn't have enought money to support her.
.. that's why she married into this *cough* crazy family. It's scary what can happen in a house that follows rules like those...
