Review of Raise the Red Lantern (1991) by Adan W — 17 May 2008
A powerful and fascinating study about women's role in a constrictive society. It is gorgeously told through superb cinematography and symbolic colors. The story is about a woman's journey of discovery and her decision whether to conform or not to the expectations that her environment places on her.
This is a very introspective film that asks the question "Do I follow along"?
