Review of Raise the Red Lantern (1991) by Ifiok O — 30 Dec 2009
I give this movie credit for giving me glimpse into the concubine culture in Chinese, since I viewed this film in my Comparative Cultures course in high school. It is a beautiful movie with nice landscapes and beautiful settings and costumes.
But of course with that beauty, there is tension and the ugliness of jealousy and violence erupts, especially during key scenes in the movie. But overall, it is one of the best foreign films I have seen, and a nice glimpse into history.
