Review of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) by Matt M — 30 Oct 2013
A rivering tribute to the matinee movies, though the ultimate irony is that this film enjoyed a lot more critical success that the ones it celebrates. Raiders of the Lost Ark is simply one of the most enjoyable movies ever made.
The film is centred on the character of Indiana Jones, an adventurous archaeologist and college professor who aims to protect ancient artefacts from the hands of the evil Nazis. Harrison Ford is equally as comfortable playing Indiana as he had been playing Han Solo, with the memorable one liners and a matter of fact cynisicm as well as that smirk that conceals a tinge of madness and obsession.
But Raiders is also an exciting and involving story full of great action sequences and ground breaking special effects and an impressive sense of humour to make the whole experience more timelessly enjoyable.
This was also only the beginning of this successful Spielberg/Lucas collaboration.
