Review of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) by Nick F — 30 Jan 2014
" Jones, do you realize what the Ark is? It's a transmitter. It's a radio for speaking to God."- Belloq.
Pros-Everything! A fantastic John Williams score, Harrison Ford finding a role even better than Han Solo, Sallah, Karen Allen, the villains (Belloq, Toht, the Nazis, German mechanic, and Cairo swordsman), "Snakes. Why'd have to be snakes?", "Bad dates.", "I am the monarch of the sea, I am the ruler of the queen's navy!", "Let me show you, what I am used to.", death by Ark, Marcus Brody, top men, the whole freaking plot.
Cons-Why does Indy know to look away from the ark?
Verdict-***** This movie's fantastic! It's just the kind of movie that would appeal to anyone, be it action, adventure, light-hearted heroics, grim death sequences, an appealing romance subplot, blatant disregard for the lives of Nazis, or unapologetic Harrison Ford fanservice, this movie has something for everyone to enjoy. I can't quite imagine who wouldn't enjoy this film. Perhaps someone with poor taste. Or George Lucas, as seen by his heavy involvement with the disappointment that was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
*-Bad.
**-Okay.
***-Good.
****-Really good.
*****-Excellent.
