Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Darien S — 08 Aug 2011
It is slow in parts and its story may not be as powerful as it should be, but Robert De Niro is AMAZING in this. He carries the film. This film is absolute realism. The themes of the film derive from the characters and the director has no other objective other than to have these characters bounce off of each other. This is the movie's strength and, to a certain extent, its weakness. But my complaints aren't enough to make this movie less than five stars so I guess they are irrelevant.
I still can't decide if Robert De Niro or Al Pacino is better. I also can't decide if it matters.
