Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Asif K — 15 Oct 2011
Often hailed as Martin Scorsese's best film, and one of the greatest ever made. It is beautiful in ways that make beauty the first thing one notices, and full of some of the most visceral and brutal boxing sequences in movie history,a film that strived for new levels of realism in its brutally stylized manner.
A movie without a single flaw, just pure perfection. With Robert De Niro giving us one of his greatest perfomance ever, for sure one of the most glorious ones in film history, and for which he won a very-well deserved Oscar award.
An extraordinarily compelling look at prizefighter Jake La Motta, whose leading opponent outside the ring were always his own demons. The film is a tribute to the collaboration of Scorsese,De Niro, and writers Paul Schrader(who also wrote "Taxi Driver")and Mardik Martin, and the magic of Scorsese's inseparable film editor Thelma Schoonmaker, who also win an Oscar for her amazing job in this film.
Plus the whole cast is amazing, from Joe Pesci,to Cathy Moriarty,to Frank Vincent, they are all great. A true wonder of world cinema!!!!
