Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Brad S — 11 Dec 2011

This film is rightly considered a Masterpiece! Just watched this for only the second time and it is amazing watching Scorsese and company at the top of their game. The technical achievements in this film are amazing, and DeNiro's transformation is shocking.

This is probably DeNiro's best performance. The cinematography is gorgeous, and all the supporting actors are great. My only problem with the film is that I didn't particularly like any of the characters or enjoy the story which kept me from absolutely loving the film.

LaMotta is portrayed as a first-class jerk and ultimately I didn't care and wasn't invested in what happened to him, not like say Travis Bickle in "Taxi Driver" or Henry Hill in "Goodfellas" who though are very flawed characters had some redeeming characteristics.

Still, this movie is a MUST watch, and if you've seen it, check it out again!
