Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Jeff L — 28 Feb 2012
One of the few films that makes you re-assess the way you watch movies. Both brutal and beautiful, gripping and reviling, Raging Bull sucks you into the lives of its characters even when you don't want to be.
At times, you despise them and yet, somehow, still want La Motta an company to come out on the other side having learned from their gruesome, insistent, self-destructiveness. A true cinematic classic in every regard--De Niro delivers one of the finest performances in the history of film, and Scorsese's camerawork is entrancing.
