Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Frances Ann A — 18 Aug 2012
All that I can say about this flick is summed up in Joseph McBride's comment from Variety magazine:
"Martin Scorsese makes pictures about the kinds of people you wouldn't want to know." I did not enjoy watching this film, I don't want to know Jake LaMotta, and YOU won't want to know him either.
The positive accolades given to this movie as well as Taxi Driver are from those critics who assume that the more dislikeable a film is, the more "serious" or "courageous" the director must be. If you are of this camp, then you will love Raging Bull.
