Review of Raging Bull (1980) by James F — 08 Jun 2013
Robert De Niro plays the thoroughly unpleasant Jake LaMotta, in the bipoic of his rise to stardom and subsequent fall. It is well documented how De Niro subjected himself to an intense training regime to get himself looking the part of a world champion boxer, and then piled on the pounds for the later stage of the film, but the support cast around him deserve recognition for their performances as well.
A well-made film, shot with old stock to give the entire film a 1940s feel to it. It is recommended recommended viewing for those don't mind brutal fight scenes. It also has the benefit of Joe Pesci appearing in a film where he is not completely irritating.
