Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Grant H — 17 Aug 2014
Whilst the final 25 minutes is arguably the crown jewel of Scorsese and DeNiro's partnership, Raging Bull is a plodding, dull experience. Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci's performances are powerful saviours, but Cathy Moriarty is the films weakest asset - emotionless delivery, less than a glimmer of chemistry with DeNiro, and resembling her 15 year old character as much as Scorsese does.
Overall, Raging Bull is an admirable effort, but it barely raises a glass to Taxi Driver.
