Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Jonathan E — 18 Apr 2011

For a young, obcessed movie fan, I love nothing more than a classic movie especially a De Niro one, I enjoyed this so much more than Taxi Driver, I compare them because that is the other De Niro movie that his considered his best by fans.

I genuinly feared De Niro is this...he terrified me. I think this was he best performance and all in all enjoyed it alot more due to the boxing story, I'm not a huge boxing fan but it does interest me and boxing movies certainly inspired me to try harder in life.

Jake LaMotta was a excellent character, 'Raging Bull' really made the layers of this guy known to the audience, From his gentle, romantic, funny and sociable side to his jealous, violent and suspicious side.

I loved the story, One man's struggle to juggle family life and his fighting life separate, Which by the end made him borderline phychotic but we see so many physical (Which De Niro really prepares for by gaining 60ibs, its shocking and brilliant to see.

..Commitment!) and mental ups and downs throughout that he can't control. This was my favorite performance so far by Joe Pesci and Cathy Moriarty was beutiful and talented, was a great asset to the movie, Frank Vincent was a nice suprise for me also because he would obviously appear in Goodfellas later on which i'm a huge fan of.

Well worth a watch.
