Review of Raging Bull (1980) by Rupert B — 27 Jun 2014
A masterpiece. I watched this movie for the first time this evening and I am shocked at how much I enjoyed it. The on screen chemistry between De Niro and Pesci is unlike any acting pair I've ever seen.
The character of Jake La Motta is an unsympathetic bum with trust issues who abuses himself and those around him. But I couldn't help but feel sorry for the guy. Especially near the end when he is on his way towards redemption.
De Niro's performance is flawless and definitely one the finest of his career. Plus the cinematography, sound editing, and visuals are all stunning. Scorsese does an amazing job at putting the former boxer's story to screen and has made a masterpiece in the process.
Do yourself a favor, if you haven't already, and watch this movie.
