RAGGEDY ROSE.

1st filmed - copyright: Oct. 26, 1926 - Hal Roach-Pathe - 3 reels - release date: Nov. 7, 1926.

dir. Richard Wallace in collaboration with Stan Laurel, Photography by Floyd Jackman and Jack Roach, Edited .

by Richard Currier, Titles by H. M. Walker .

cast: Alta Allen, Max Davidson, James Finlayson, Anita Garvin, Laura Lavarnie, Jerry Mandy, .

Carl Miller,Mabel Normand.

Location: Roach Studio, Culver City, California.

Plot: Ragamuffin (Mabel) worked for a junk dealer (Max Davidson) but is fired. Tries to land in a hospital and .

lands in home of rich hero (Carl Miller) whom she mistakes for a doctor. Mabel fights off a gold-digger (Anita .

Garvin) and her mother (Laura Lavarnie) and at the end gets her man..

?The first Roach picture I made was Raggedy Rose, directed by Dick Wallace?. ? Mabel said. In some places it .

was reported that the film was directed by F. Richard Jones which is not the case. Many of the gags were .

recycled from earlier comedy shorts. The character of Raggedy Rose is one who ?gets everything second .

hand even the sunshine? ? a real embodiment of the classic ?Secondhand Rose?. .

This comedy was heavily promoted as Mabel?s comeback. The promotion campaign even included the theme .

as sheet music. In Raggedy Rose, Max Davidson, plays a character which seen in today?s political correct age .

is more then over the top. If seen within the context of 1926 Max & Mabel make a rather funny team. The .

dream sequence is lovely as is Mabel. The gag of the auto completely falling apart with a little impact ? used .

here for the first time by Roach. It was later use often by comics like Laurel and Hardy. .

Mabel is identified with the ?Keystone Pie? and now with the ?Roach Collapsing Car?..
