Review of Rage (2014) by El-Mekki B — 24 Jul 2014
I saw RAGE! What's Rage? Why it's only Nicolas Cage's newest almost straight to DVD cash grab movie! The flick stars Nicolas Cage as Paul Maguire, an ex con turned legit business man and community leader.
..that is until his daughter is kidnapped by some mysterious enemy with ties to Maguire's dark past. With his daughter's life on the line, Maguire turns to his old running buddies to help him rattle some cages in the criminal underworld on his quest to find his daughter! Sounds interesting no? Well it is an interesting premise I'll give it that but that's all I can give it.
The camera work is shoddy and uneven, the script is weak and the violence is over the top and just doesn't fit the acting in the rest of the movie which, by the way, is sketchy at best on everyone's part.
It's seriously just one step beyond a community college filmmaking class with this movie. On the plus side, there is a decent Nic Cage freak out moment that is just a little bit better than the infamous "HOW'D IT GET BURNED!" line in The Wicker Man.
Overall, don't go see this movie, don't rent it and if it's on TV on a Sunday afternoon, which it won't be, do a crossword puzzle or a sudoku instead. It's not even bad in a humorous way, it's just bad in a boring way.
It's a "meh" level of bad, which in a way is worse. I'd love to give this movie an N/A for a rating but I guess a 1... out of 5 conveys the message well enough.
