Review of Radio Days (1987) by Sarah S — 30 Jul 2010
Radio Days is Allen at his most nostalgic; disregarding plot for a series of anecdotes and incidents that make up the hour and a half running time. While the stories all somehow revolve around the radio as it was in the 1940s, anyone who grew up with a family should find themselves relating to and recognizing the characters in the film.
You've got the crazy uncle, the bickering parents, The cool aunt. The list goes on. The lighting and cinematography is in perfect step with the nostalgic feel of the film, with everything being cast in an almost sepia tone of warm yellow.
While the film openly admits to romanticizing childhood memories, itâ??s a fond and harmless walk down memory lane, leaving that sad, bitter sweet taste in your mouth at the end. I really loved Radio days, and despite the fact, or maybe because of the fact that there is literally no story, I count it among my favorite Woody Allen films.
