Review of Racing Extinction (2015) by Ron H — 25 Dec 2018
I started off thinking this movie was the best. It highlighted real problems with Shark Finning, and animal exploitation. Then part way through it started to introduce inaccurate facts.
Example: In the movie they state that all 5 mass extinctions were preceeded by a CO2 spike. Wow. This is so not true. The Ordovician extinction was triggered by a mass rise in oxygen, and a sudden drop in CO2. The second extinction is noted for it's rise in Methane. In fact, none of the 5 are linked to a rise in CO2, and only 2 are linked to rises in Gas. Ok... Maybe they blew it in just this 1 quote. No. They later stated that most land clearing is done to raise animal products. At the latest study over 2/3rds of all land clearing was done to raise crops. And, there were a large number of other non-facts that were being touted as facts. For a moment, I thought I must be reading a Musk tweat... To find... Musk is behind this.
Ok. I am very pro environment. But, I am pro getting the facts straight as you try to save it. I recall back in college as I watched a group of well meaning environmentalists drive a spieces of deer into extinction because... They were uneducated, and believed a bunch of un-true facts.
If you want to save the world... Reduce populations. Stop using plastic, move back to glass. Move to solar and wind in your home. Learn the truth about the environmental impact of certain batteries. Learn to trust, and help fish and game management. (Most of them have the right knowledge to manage a species.) so on an so forth.
Anyway. This show starts off great and devolves into a load of garbage.
