Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Kayode O — 26 Oct 2009
Once in a while you come across a film that seem the makers could care less if it makes money or not, everyone seem consumed with one aim; to produce a work of art, that's how I will describe Rachel getting Married! It is beautifully scripted, superbly acted and eclectically shot; a gem of a movie, one I will surely add to my collection.
To start with, they appear to ignore the Hollywood formula for film making. Mostly shot hand held, long scenes with little dialogue and a lot of close ups. I read comments that some viewers felt uneasy watching the film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I cried, I laughed and held my breath and smiled; all the things a good script and beautiful film should evoke from you: response! From the acting to the shots, to the editing and not to mention most of the soundtrack was played by the characters off the cuff... and what a performance from Anne Hathaway... she has finally won me over with this one and was duly deserving of her Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a leading role. I could go on unend but suffice me to say; this is what motion pictures is all about!!!
