Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Derek L — 22 Nov 2009
It's different, for me, to see Anne Hathaway in a serious role, but she did pretty well with it. While a lot of the interactions weren't realistic (a lot of the the strange moments were dialogue-emotion heavy ones), much of it was believable. There was a lot about the family dynamics that was hinted at - I think there could have been more that was left unsaid - a lot that we weren't told, but shown through action and that helped make this film move along.
The wedding itself was annoying and upsetting and disappointing for a number of reasons, least of which were the mother-daughter issues. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the numerous cultural rip-off and stereotypical behavior were intentional and were also supposed to tell us about Kym's family.
It wasn't superb, but it also wasn't completely corny. I liked this film.
