Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Codie E — 09 Apr 2010
Watching this film for a second time was a very different experience to my initial one. I was still blown away by the intensity of the drama, the remarkable performances and the feeling Demme creates of an experimental theatre troup rather than a film.
But my initial problems were heightened. The lines between pretentious and sickly characters and the filmmakers become more blurred. This is due to the constant on screen music and more so, the intrusive and obvious 'cameras'.
Nonetheless this is unique and brilliant cinema.
