This is a very special little movie. Jonathan Demme directs this loose-limbed, naturalistic family drama with a verite style so complete that it feels like watching a home movie, and the dialogue is achingly, gut-clenchingly realistic in a way that I didnâ??t movies knew how to be.

It was real family conversation to make you at once warmed, comforted, uncomfortable, embarrassed and right at home. Kym, the protagonist (played by a transcendent Anne Hathaway) comes out of rehab to attend her sister Rachelâ??s wedding, an occasion filled with such warmth and wonderful family and friends that I wanted to be there myself.

Kym isnâ??t terribly likable and has a way of making everything about her, but by the end of the film the reality of her situation makes you sympathetic and the obvious love between her and her family members, even when theyâ??re screaming at each other, is palpable.

The entire atmosphere is filled with music and hope and exuberance. I wanted to step through the screen and be there. A wonderful film.
