There are flicks like The Family Stone, and then there are these. Jonathan Demme literally immerses us in this family gathering and sees us pull out of the driveway after it's over, as if we actually were a part of the gathering and not just passive observers.
The catch is the gathering is not exactly joyful most of the time.
