Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Felipe P — 04 Dec 2011
This movie was simply perfection. Rachel Getting Married points the proverbial flashlight at the family system we employ here in North America; it exploits the values we as a society have of the family always being above everything and everyone, through thick and thin.
But when your family is as dysfunctional as the one depicted here.. it's a constant struggle. The acting, the story, the setting, the EVERYTHING was simply done to a tee. Anne Hathaway's performance was powerful to say the least, but across the board the acting was solid and I really found myself drawn into the web of the character's lives.
For example, watching the mother drive out of her family's lives there at the end.. truly heartbreaking, there was a definite tone of finality there. No one is perfect, everyone is selfish, and I just plain loved this film.
Watch it. And if you already have, watch it again.
