I wish I had seen this film earlier. RACHEL GETTING MARRIED is a brilliantly realized vision of an average family. This film is so well directed that I could have sworn Jonathan Demme took a video camera and filmed an important stage of his family's life.
The entire cast is fabulous- there is hardly a false step in any of the performances here. There are parts of the film that go on for way too long and it's not a good a film to see on a big-screen- the home movie feel of this film does not detract that it is an entirely hand-held shot film.
Still- it's one of the best films of 2008 and a high point in the careers of Jonathan Demme and Anne Hathaway,.
