Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Andrew S — 17 Jan 2014
Interestingly this redactive slice of realism was the exact opposite of Spring Breakers which I watched a mere hour before. Although a showcase for Hathaway's acting prowess as the black sheep / recovery Demme's refusal to let the music party and improvised family retorts becomes quite annoying.
The star really is Hathaway though as she tries to hold the bruised and broken pieces together (a revelatory scene for her depression involving her younger brother) while her sister is getting married.
It certainly is not for all and does not have much to say to grand themes other than coping, but it is a worthwhile journey for particular characters. First time rating: 7.3/10.
