Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Du A — 05 Apr 2010
I really like Anne Hathaway, but I think she made a poor choice when she decided to accept this role. As if the first-person camera shoot wasn't enough, this movie suffered from extreme realism, to the point of painful boredom.
The viewers do not need to hear every irrelevant speech made at the rehearsal dinner, nor do they need to watch the wedding guests dance to endless songs at the reception. There was the hint of some tragic tension overshadowing the festivities, but it never culminated in a full-blown climax.
I found myself wishing that something... anything... would happen, but no. If you long for a story of family dysfunction, keep looking. This one will just leave you lacking. In a word - tedious.
