Review of Rachel Getting Married (2008) by Tony P — 29 Apr 2011
Demme is great at creating intimate and believable atmospheres within ensemble casts, and Rachel Getting Married feels like the most intimate fly-on-the-wall wedding movie ever. The atmosphere of energy and joy is palpable, and you can't help but become immersed in this event.
The family drama that accompanies it is moving, involving, and often hard to watch. No one here feels like a character, because everyone has their good and bad qualities, and many are hard to like. No one is perfect and no one begs the audience for sympathy.
