Review of Race (2016) by Karen W — 29 Feb 2016
Ack. Obviously sporting good intensions, but falling short in every way, this film is a shell of a movie, edited down to the most basic of elementary styled messages. The performances are really good. They delivered full stop in the acting department, despite having only this polished, watered down, cleaned up and apologetic, tired and overly sunshiny version of the story to tell.
This man's story, this biography of an athlete, an Olympian, immersed in a broken bigoted system, then aligned with another broken bigoted system...these choices he was faced with, witnessed, they proved game changing.
For some, a heart wrenching and story, for others a shift was unavoidable. This piece of history deserved a MUCH better, grittier, heartier and braver storyteller.
