Review of Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002) by Merlin — 05 Sep 2008
I found this movie intense and human. There are good descriptions throughout these reviews, so I'll leave them to it. I do want to specify that the children walked for longer than a few days... they walked hundreds of miles.
.. through the Australian outback! The reason I describe this movie as very "human" is that is spotlights many strong human characteristics. Each individual in this film is doing their best to do what they believe is the right thing, and yet they are creating something HORRIBLE.
This is seen repeatedly in Greek tragedy. This film also focuses on the strength and spirit. There is almost no dialogue for much of the film, because people don't often explain what they are feeling at every moment.
Oftentimes we communicate through body language, and at least one of these reviewers is not that great at interpreting. I cried repeatedly through this movie and felt blessed to have witnessed it afterwards.
I felt as if the journey had been shared with me as if it were a present. It's a good friggin' movie. :).
