Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by Ollie W — 19 Jun 2011
John Cameron Mitchell moves carefully and effectively away from his decidedly erotic and flamboyant previous efforts, to gracefully direct this highly emotional and honest study of a relationship seemingly doomed by mutual and all-encompassing grief.
Beautifully performed (in, perhaps for me, Kidman's first stand out role) and often very funny - this is a terrible and exhausting subject matter, considered with the dignity and authenticity it truly deserves.
It's not a completely welcome genre and stylistic shift from Mitchell (in this camp anyway) but it's certainly an effective one.
