Review of Rabbit Hole (2010) by Denise O — 17 Jan 2012
Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart play a husband and wife who try to piece back their lives after the sudden and tragic death of their son. The only problem is that both of them have completely different ideas of how to find happiness once again. In steps Sandra Oh a recently separated woman who has been in group counseling following the death of her child for almost 8 years, who becomes a close friend but boy do I want more, of Aaron. Nicole, in an effort to make sense of it all, seeks out the teenage driver of the car that hit her son and befriends him. She sees in him what she hopes her son would've turned out to be. Dianne Weist plays the mother (who lost her son to a heroin overdose some years earlier) who receives the brunt of Nicole's anger. Tammy Blanchard plays the recently pregnant sister who gets to watch this train wreck unfold all around her.
Although not a happy ending and certainly not the feel good movie of the year, it ends with hope.
Kudos to: Nicole Kidman (acting), Aaron Eckart (acting), Dianne Weist (acting), John Cameron Mitchell (directing) and David Lindsay-Abaire (writing).
